Good book for those who need help with crafts

Craft books are generally not my thing! I don't have a creative bone in my body when it comes to making projects or gifts. But this is a great book for someone who wants to make things yet needs some help. Along with the ideas in the book, the back section is filled with cut-outs to include as tags, labels, inspirational quotes and graphics. The author has done a lot of the work for you!
In the book are suggestions for ways to create things to make others happy. There are projects to make for veterans, special needs children, hospital patients, friends and family, and much more. Some are whimsical -- like Ding Dong Donuts -- and some are practical, like hospital socks or a first aid kit. Children are encouraged to think of how they can be kind to others on their birthdays. And parents have a page of ideas for making lunch box notes or sharing acts of kindness on date nights. For those who like to make gifts in the kitchen, there are a few recipes for simple things like fruit dip and lemonade.
All in all, this is a very inspirational book filled with simple ideas for families to put into practice in their daily lives.

and we really need books like this one just now

This book arrived in the mail just as I had engaged in an exchanged with a facebook friend about whether kindness works. My friend was traumatized by the San Bernadino shootings and understandably reacting with anger and fear. I had just posted a Dalai Lama quote about kindness always being a choice. She wasn't impressed; maybe this book would have changed her mood. Our world out of balance right now, and we really need books like this one just now.
Blogger Mique Provost started this book in honor of her autistic son. He was turning 13 and not interested in new gifts, so she emailed her "F & F" -- friends and family -- and asked them to join her in making and sharing random acts of kindness in his honor, and the response was very rewarding. She catalogs about 50 of them here, ranging from baking muffins for your firefighters to making toys for an animal shelter with your kids. The projects are all simple and inexpensive, and the book includes notecard templates in the back to copy and explain gifts. The projects are even categorized: C for community, F & F for family and friends, and K for kids.
With 50 projects listed, plus some very nice, heartwarming anecdotes, this book is definitely more than the sum of its parts. Working in a children's library, I've searched for some of these projects for the kids to do as community projects, because I believe wholeheartedly that kids want and need chances to be generous to others. This book sets those out in a beautiful format, truly inspiring and inviting participation. It could also serve as a sort of scrapbook to record projects and ideas for other projects. Make & Share Random Acts of Kindness may indeed be the perfect gift for the family that has everything.

Easy Ways to Share Acts of Kindness

Mique Provost’s latest book, “Make & Share Random Acts of Kindness,” is a logical progression from other books she has written and will be enjoyed as well as applied by many readers.
This wonderful book contains almost 50 beginner and kid-friendly step-by-step crafts plus ideas for easy to make sweet treats and meals. The theme of the book is after making the crafts or goodies to share them with friends, family members or strangers as an act of kindness. The book also contains useful and inspirational quotes that can be included with the gifts. And there are stories of individuals who decided to perform random acts of kindness that encourage the reader to do the same.
Mique started doing random acts of kindness to celebrate the 13th birthday of her oldest son who has autism. She contacted friends and family, asking them to perform random acts of kindness to honor her son. The acts performed on that special day started a new pattern for Provost who continues the tradition and encouraged her acquaintances to do the same. Now she encourages all her readers to experience the fulfillment of begin kind to others.
Among the ideas in her latest book are to bake muffins for firefighter and police officers, making toys for an animal shelter, blessing bags for the homeless, letters for troops, bears for orphanages, play dough for preschools, bookmarks for libraries, flags for veterans, cream puffs for community volunteers and several other terrific projects.
The first random acts of kindness movement was started in the 1980s by Anne Herbert, a peace activist who wrote this message on a restaurant placement – "Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty." From that single message the movement spread around the world, including a visit to Mique Provost who contributed to the movement with “Make & Share Random Acts of Kindness.”
Mique Provost is the author of several other practical, unique and inspiring books, including: “30 Handmade Days”, “The Co-Owner of Queen Bee Market?” and “Life Rearranged: Life Doesn’t Always Go As We Planned, Help Others Anyway.” After publishing “30 Handmade Days” Mique started a very popular blog by the same name.
