The importance of income on child well-being: A great intro

This book is a must read for any serious student of social policy in America. Written by some of the most accomplished social scientists in their respective fields, this book addresses many of the various underlying forces that may or may not moderate the effects of poverty on child well-being. Additionally, factors such as the duration and timing of poverty are also addressed. I reference this book frequently.

If you are a researcher or just interested in the issue of poverty

A detailed analysis if you are interested in, or studying the issue of poverty. This is by no means a quick read but a thorough statistical analysis of the potential causes of poverty. For policymakers interested in helping impoverished children succeed, or for those requiring a detailed analysis on poverty, this book provides a complete examination of the dimensions of poverty and its potential causes. It is an extremely valuable and useful academic work but a very dense read. Not for the faint of heart.

Dry statistics aren't the way to evoke compassion
