Family chaos and disappointment!

This book confused me so much! I loved that the book followed a big chaotic family but the chaos got to be too much for me! I had no idea how many family members there were and they just kept coming throughout the book, and then you had to keep track of spouses and who was married to who. Then the family would talk over each other and the Author wasn't very clear who was saying what! I had to go back and re read too many times and only half the time I could figure it out after rereading it.
I loved the main character and the mystery behind him and his cloak, but I was unconvinced by his sudden change of feelings for the prince from distain to kissing him and love.
Then there was the prince and his cheesy love speeches! So annoying I had to skip them!
This book has potential! But it feels like the first draft of a really good story!
I would not recommend, but would be willing to re-evaluate if the Author came out with an new edit of the story.

The terse dialog and hidden plot devices made this fantasy a great read. I loved the characterization of a crazy family dynamic. It sounded like a realistic and accurate account of a family that initially you might think hated each other but strongly pulled together in a clinch, belying their surface animosity. These antics plus the romance at the heart of the story interested me into re-reading the book three times so I could catch all the action, attitudes and plot threads. Sebastian's Mr. Grumpy Pants act was a hoot! Normally in a book like this, the prince comes off as too virtuous, however, his horny side was revealed, unexpectedly. Wonderful writing, best illustration of less is more. Makes your imagination dig for it. Loved it. Can't wait for the sequel.

who should know better behaved in the book

This book was okay, I frequently found myself frustrated with the way the adults, who should know better behaved in the book. For them to be all knowing and royalty they more often than not acted like immature children. Especially Sebastion's (one of the main characters) father, he always knew more than he would share, even with the readers, and it led to a bunch of unnecessary confusion that put many people in danger. I really wanted to like this book and for the most part it was okay, but it definitely left me frustrated and wanting more.
