About the Author

Patricia Broderick, Ph.D. is a Research Associate with the Prevention Research Center at Penn State University and former director of the Stress Reduction Center at West Chester University of PA. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Villanova and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Temple University. She is a licensed psychologist, certified school psychologist (K-12), certified school counselor (K-12). and certified teacher. She was trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Center for Mindfulness (CFM) at UMASS Medical Center and has taught MBSR since 2003. Her research interests include mindfulness in education, gender differences in coping styles of early adolescents, and relationships between rumination and the development of depression.

 

Pamela Blewitt, Ph.D. is a professor of Psychology at the Villanova University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. A leading authority on how young children acquire vocabulary, she has researched the basic cognitive processes that support word learning while delving into environmental factors that enrich verbal expression such as shared book reading and adult-child conversation. Blewitt can also address how the quality of child care affects early language and literacy and discuss how to make developmental science accessible to parents, caregivers and helping professionals. She has a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester and an M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Buyer beware - time limit on e-book

UPDATE: I recently re-purchased this book in kindle, after purchasing it last year in hardcover with Pearson e-access. True to form, Pearson again tries to rake customers by forcing amazon to limit access to only two devices. For me that means having to choose whether to put it on my laptop, phone, desktop, or tablet, rather than having access on any device. At least with amazon's kindle version, I can keep the ebook permanently, something that was not possible with Pearson's version.
This book is very dense and full of information, it is a good resource for counselors and others interested in lifelong human development. Broderick and Blewitt do a fine job explaining the nuances of each period of the life span. It is the publisher - Pearson - who does a horrible job in providing access for clients. I don't see the Pearson ebook offered by amazon any more, which is a good thing. Of course none of the supplementary materials are available with the kindle and hard copy versions, but those materials are not necessary. I recommend this book, but only in hard copy or amazon's kindle version. Pearson can keep their etext, you - the reader - don't need it.

PREVIOUS REVIEW: Buyer beware! I bought this book packaged with the e-access card thinking it would be a good text to retain for professional practice. The hard copy book is fine, however the ebook requires a proprietary app and access expires in 6 months. No where in the amazon description does it say that e-access is limited in any way. The only reason I bought the hardcopy/e-access package was so I could have and keep both. Pearson eText is poorly done, as others reviewers have said. But Amazon is usually much better than this. I am very disappointed. For this particular book, save a little bit and buy a hardcopy. The additional cost of the ebook is not worth it. A Kindle version or pdf would be much better.

Complete and Fascinating

This thorough textbook is designed to teach principles of human development from birth to death. With an extensive and up-to-date research base, the book effectively provides an array of information from which anyone can learn. I find myself quoting information from the book on a regular basis because the content is so interesting and useful.

There is solid online support to help students learn the information.

The book's emphasis on professionals in psychology could be better adapted to profesisonals working in special education as one of the helping professions. And whle the authors have a fluent writing style, the print is too small to read easily. The publisher used small print with wide text lines (instead of consistent columns), color behind print for poor contrast, and little white space between lines, which means that the professor who wants to adapt to learners with visual challenges will need to find another book.

Excellent information, which is downright fascinating.

No Access Code

Just an FYI, this book does NOT come with the access code for the online lab, which my teacher requires. Access can be purchased through the Pearson website, but it will cost you an extra $31.50. Amazon's description does not make this clear. If all you need is the book, then this should fit your needs. If you need access to the lab, you might find it cheaper to purchase the book with the "value pack" from another retailer.

A payoff not worthy of the buildup

In Part Three, all things are resolved as Mary finally takes her rightful place as the new Fetish Queen of the local kink community and we discover the source of the threats against her and the ones she has come to love. But Mary has to make several difficult choices and deal with immediate personal danger before she can reach her own personal Happily Ever After.

I suppose it's the nature of a concluding third part of a trilogy that setting up the plot payoffs and wrapping things up neatly is what needs to be provided above all, but I still found Part Three to be somewhat of a let-down. I'd guessed the source of the threats back in Part Two - it wasn't really much of a mystery - and when that person finally appeared, it was almost anticlimactic as the scene played itself out and the story moved along to its happy ending for all. It's not like I wanted Mary to actually be killed or harmed, but the buildup had been so effective that the payoff just couldn't live up to my expectations.

The Fetish Box is definitely nothing like anything else I've read this year. It didn't always work for me but I appreciate Nicole Camden's effort at writing something different than all the other serialized erotic stories available today. Although I can't help thinking that this story would have been better served without serialization, I'll always treasure the perfect jewel that was Part One.

Nice, but should have been one book.

I received my copy from Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books through NetGalley and rated it 4- stars.

And so we arrive at the final episode of Mary's introduction to and continuation of her mother's kinky life. Again, since this book is not so much a third title in a trilogy but rather the third part of the same novel, we start exactly where the second story, "What Escapes"; ended with Max and Mary waiting for the police to arrive after people have broken into her house, forcing Mary to flee.

After this second attack, Mary is more determined than ever to attend the fetish party her shop is preparing for. She may be inexperienced when it comes to kink, but she is determined not to expose her new found friends to danger that is aimed at her personally. If anybody is going to put themselves at risk it should be her, and nobody else. And although her friends, and especially John who is starting to care for her more than he's willing to admit, worry about her safety they can't argue with the fact that it makes good business sense for her to introduce her mother's customers to the new owner of The Fetish Box.

Deciding what clothes to wear to the party gives John and Mary plenty and highly imaginative opportunities to explore new sexual games. And although the party does turn out to be as dangerous as everybody feared, all's well that ends well, especially since it allows Mary to discover exactly what she wants to do with her new life.

It is going to be impossible to share my thoughts on this book without repeating things I already said in my reviews for "Open All Night" and "What Escapes". Since this is in reality one story rather than a trilogy I'm not sure that it is possible to review this book as a single entity. In fact, if anyone were to read this book without having read the first two installments first, they would probably be completely lost as to what exactly is happening and why. So, my objections to Mike's Irish accent and to the speed with which Mary turns from a virgin into a sexy vixen still stand. At one point in this book our heroine is actually described as being "experienced" which is a bit of a stretch taking into account that it has been a mere few weeks since she was first introduced to the pleasures of sex.

As far as this book specifically is concerned I have two remarks to make. I found the resolution of the suspense part of the story a bit rushed. After all the build-up in the previous two installments it only took a few pages for the bad guy to come out of hiding, stage his attack and be caught. I also think I would have preferred it if there had been a twist with regard to the identity of Mary's opponent.

But, having said all that, I have to admit that I did enjoy the story as a whole. I liked the idea behind it, I liked the characters and enjoyed the interactions (both physical and verbal) between them. In fact, I think my rating would have been a bit higher if I had read this as one book, without interruptions rather than the way I was forced to read it now. I've got a feeling that there may well be a sequel to this story coming and if that is true I hope Nicole Camden will consider publishing it as one book rather than a serial. I do find myself curious as to how this story and these characters will develop further but I'm not sure I want to put myself through reading-interruptus once again.

The Fetish Box: What Remains is the third installment of the Fetish Box novel. This section was okay. I would have liked the book better if it was sold as a whole novel and not broken into 3 parts. The problem with that is that you tend to lose interest in the characters when you have to wait to see what happens next andyou cannot get a true feel for the characters.
In this installment we find that Mary is transforming into her true authentic self (from virgin to fetish princess), which is amazing considering it has only been a few weeks. I like the complexity of the relationships between the main characters. They are all one big majorly dysfunctional family. This book is a little steamy, though I think the second installment was a little more so. Of course, we also find out who is trying to ruin the box, and it is no surprise. I hope that the author decides to continue the story with the arrival of Lillie, but not as a broken up novel. Breaking up the story is different from continuing it in another novel and if you must break it up I would suggest not waiting so long between installments.

Two "straight" guys wind up with a good excuse to get it on.

Short and completely forgettable.
If you're bored and want to see some "straight" guys get it on without having to read 200000 pages to get them in bed, this is a good choice for you.

I'd prefer if they fell in love at the end but it's left hanging in the air. Perhaps they did. Perhaps not.

If you want to skip to the good stuff go to 38% on the Kindle it's location 416 of 1092. The good stuff goes on and on for quite a few pages.

Oh and keep reading after the end. You get a sneak peek of what I felt is one of this author's best works. The characters there feel so real and are getting with real challenges. You'll actually care about how their story progresses.

That's one charming thing about this author. She does both fantasy and realistic pieces very well. If you've never read her work, I'd recommend staying with winter demon if you like fantasy but if you like realistic go with unprison.

This book gives an account of the state of the art in the study of fast multiscale methods for solving these equations based on wavelets. The authors begin by introducing essential concepts and describing conventional numerical methods. They then develop fast algorithms and apply these to solving linear, nonlinear Fredholm integral equations of the second kind, ill-posed integral equations of the first kind and eigen-problems of compact integral operators. Theorems of functional analysis used throughout the book are summarised in the appendix. The book is an essential reference for practitioners wishing to use the new techniques. It may also be used as a text, with the first five chapters forming the basis of a one-semester course for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduates.

About the Author
Zhongying Chen is a professor of computational mathematics at Sun Yat-Sen University, China. He is the author or co-author of more than 70 professional publications, including the books Generalized Difference Methods for Differential Equations and Approximate Solutions of Operator Equations. He has served on the editorial board of four journals including Advances in Computational Mathematics, and two book series including the Series in Information and Computational Science, China.

Charles A. Micchelli is a distinguished research professor of mathematics at SUNY Albany and an international leader of approximation theory and wavelet analysis. His research interests cover approximation theory, wavelet analysis, computer aided geometric design, multiscale methods for Fredholm integral equations, speech recognition and mathematical learning theory. Prior to his current position, he was employed by IBM T. J. Watson Research Center as a senior research staff member for over 30 years. Honors he has received include the Senior Alexander von Humboldt Prize and an invitation to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians (1983). Micchelli is an editor of several leading journals in approximation theory and computational mathematics and also the founding editor of Advances in Computational Mathematics, for which he served as editor-in-chief from 1994 to 2011. He is the author or co-author of over 300 research publications and an owner of several patents. His research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation and the Office of Science of the US Air Force.

Yuesheng Xu is a professor emeritus of mathematics at Syracuse University, USA and Guohua Chair Professor at Sun Yat-Sen University, China. He is a National Scholar of China, the director of Guangdong Province Key Laboratory of Computational Science, and the president of the Guangdong Province Association of Computational Mathematics. Xu is also a member of the executive committee of the Association of Computational Mathematics of China and an Adjunct Professor of radiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, USA. His research interests include approximation theory and wavelet analysis, the numerical solution of integral equations and PDEs, and image and signal processing. He currently serves on the editorial board of seven academic journals, including Advances in Computational Mathematics, where he was the managing editor from 1999 to 2011, and the Journal of Integral Equations and Applications. He has published over 150 research papers. His research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation, the Office of Science of the US Air Force, NASA and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Province Government of China.
